Despite being the world's most beautiful game, football (or soccer, in some regions) doesn't exactly have a whole lot of video games that really capture the essence of playing the sport. Sloclap's Rematch is a direct response to that need, and the beta shows a lot of promise. There is no football game anywhere near as immersive as Rematch. The game makes you feel like you're actually there on the pitch, which is nothing short of impressive.

Rematch will be releasing June 19, 2025 on various different platforms, and I absolutely recommend that you check it out for yourself. It is a phenomenal multiplayer experience. Not quite flawless, but fun enough that the game's issues are easy to overlook.

Rematch Offers A Beautifully Accurate Feeling Of Football

What makes Rematch stand out, in particular, is how the game plays. Running, passing, shooting, and defending, there is a level of control to the game that just feels perfect. Rematch is accurate to football in a way that you don't even get out of games like EA Sports FC.

Awareness is one of the most important skills to develop in Rematch. That's what ultimately makes the game feel so immersive. You can play however you want — focusing more on man-marking opposing players or making runs for your team — but you're always going to need to be conscious of the current gamestate. It's important to keep track of the ball, but being able to quickly react to where your teammates and opposing players are positioned is just as important.

Rematch is satisfying to play not only because of the control it gives you when you're on the ball, but also because of how crucial your actions are when you're off it. Rematch really makes you feel like you're playing football, and the strategy that experience offers is a delight.

You can aim your shots and passes in Rematch. Sometimes a lucky bounce might also help you score.

Quick Comments On The Multiplayer Experience

Rematch is one of those types of games that are infinitely more fun when you're playing with friends. If the game's lacking in anything, it's mostly just in liveliness. Rematch is still super fun when you're queuing up solo, but the beta felt a bit hollow without actual human interaction. Football also inherently relies on strategic movements, so no one being on the same page can be extremely frustrating for everyone.

Honestly, there aren't really any other problems of note with Rematch. The expectation is that you're always going to get an engaging match, and that generally is the case. The gameplay alone can really carry the experience. Football, at its core, just feels nice to play. Every positive action feels rewarding, whether that's through a great pass or a clutch save. It feels good to have actual responsibilities. It feels even better to excel.

Playing as the goalkeeper doesn't feel bad at all, by the way. The position gets way too much hate. Sure, you might miss being further up the pitch, but good goalkeeping is immensely valuable. A lot of people just hate the pressure that comes with it...which is understandable, I guess. In the full game, though, no excuses will be acceptable.

Defending means more than just staying back in your own half. Intercepting and stealing the ballcan put you in a great position in Rematch.
