Emma Frost's X-Revolution costume in Marvel Rivals is truly a sight to behold. Marvel Rivals has already gotten plenty bold with its costume design choices before, but they've really outdone themselves this time. It is Emma Frost, though. Beauty and promiscuity is just something you can expect out of the character. Emma's original version of the costume in the comics isn't actually all that different. Marvel Rivals just focuses on certain...features more. Emma Frost's thighs take center stage.
The existence of mutants in the Marvel universe makes for a genuinely interesting philosophical discussion. What exactly would be an appropriate way to think about them? Should humanity fear them? Worship them? Uncanny X-Men (2013) is one comic that explores that topic in-depth. Uncanny X-Men (2013) #1 is where Emma Frost's X-Revolution costume hails from.
To very simply summarize the comic's story, Cyclops and his X-Men have essentially become the premier representatives of the mutant rights movement. The safety of all mutants comes before all else — that's how the X-Men now operate. They are revolutionaries with good intentions, but their willingness to bend the laws and use dangerous force has essentially left them as outlaws.
Emma Frost is a key part of Cyclops' team. Her dynamic with him is important, and the complexity of their relationship helps further explore some of the comic's biggest themes.
There isn't an exact reason provided as for why Emma Frost switches away from her traditionally white attire, but a few different explanations fit well enough. The most likely reason is that it represents her shift away from her responsibilities as White Queen. Her legacy status is no longer of importance. She's dedicated herself wholly to the X-Men cause.
Another sensible explanation that actually works in hand with the previous one is that her new costume is designed to match the darker, more gritty version of the X-Men from the comic. As part of a more militant group, Emma Frost would simply stand out too much in white. That doesn't mean she can't still dress provocatively, though. Marvel Rivals just takes that to a whole other level...
If you're curious about the X-Revolution costume's MVP animation, it's actually a direct reference to Inhumans vs. X-Men #0. Emma Frost has been training her diamond form by jumping off cliffsides. The stopwatch helps her time herself, waiting a little longer to trigger her transformation each time. Her goal? Making her diamond form functionally autonomous. The animation is a fitting inclusion, considering how important Emma's diamond form is to her kit in Marvel Rivals.
