The way in which Marvel Rivals genuinely listens to its community is truly something impressive. The Season 2 update to the game directly addresses many concerns and desires that the fanbase has had. More balance adjustments, modified team-up abilities, changes to the competitive system, Season 2 is going to be a delight. Here's a quick rundown of everything interesting coming in Marvel Rivals Season 2.
The lore behind Season 2 of Marvel Rivals has all our favorite heroes attending Emma Frost's Hellfire Gala in Krakoa. Peace is only ever fleeting in the Marvel universe, however, as Ultron ends up crashing the party. This new story seems weirdly disconnected from all the Dracula stuff in Season 1, but, hey, it's a convenient way to introduce the new characters.
Emma Frost will be Marvel Rivals' newest female Vanguard. Using both telepathic and diamond abilities, Emma will be able to effectively lead the charge, keeping her allies well-protected. Her diamond form will, indeed, be making an appearance. Emma Frost will be available from the start of Season 2.
Ultron will be releasing in Season 2.5. No other official information about him has been shared just yet, but we do know that he will be a Strategist.
Beginning in Season 3, Marvel Rivals seasons will see a change in duration. Instead of being three months long, seasons will be shortened to be two months long. The plan is to release a new character every single month. It's a bold move. We'll see how long that change lasts.
More personalization will soon be coming to Marvel Rivals. Additional color options will be made available for some of the more popular costumes in the game. It's not exactly clear, though, if you'll be able to personally modify the colors. It's probably safer to just assume that alternate color options will be made available. That'll still lead to some gorgeous designs. Psylocke's Vengeance costume looks great with white as its main color, for example.
The developers of Marvel Rivals have long repeated the idea that team-up abilities are flexible in nature. There is no concept of permanence surrounding the mechanic. We are definitely seeing that in Season 2, as a good amount of characters have been assigned to either new or alternative team-ups. Doctor Strange, Namor, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Winter Soldier, Emma Frost, Magneto, and Psylocke will all be impacted.
The new team-ups are: Arcane Order (Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch), Stars Aligned (Captain America and Winter Soldier), and Mental Projection (Emma Frost, Magneto, and Psylocke). It'll definitely be interesting to see how powerful these abilities are in-game.
The shakeup to team-up abilities makes up a part of the game balance for Season 2. Namor, for example, no longer gets benefits from having a Luna Snow on the same team. Traditional adjustments will be coming, though. Characters like Peni Parker, Mister Fantastic, Black Widow, Moon Knight, and Jeff will get outright buffs. Expect continued nerfs to healers like Loki and Adam Warlock, as well.
Ranked is going to look a little different in Season 2. A rank reset will take place, but what's more interesting is that the developers actually plan to increase the weight of individual performances in competitive point gains/losses. If you're good at the game, expect to be rewarded by the new system.
New changes are also coming to both the low and high end of ranked. The minimum level to play on ranked is now Level 15. And if you are Eternity rank or higher, you will be limited to duo queues. These are seemingly minor changes, but they could change the landscape of the game by a good deal.
